Grains

Barley
Feed Barley produced in the UK has been grown for this purpose, although varieties for malting that failed to make the grade are also suitable. Produced as a major cereal component in beef and dairy diets.
Barley is well recognised as an excellent energy source for ruminants providing high levels of starch to stimulate production. Available as a whole grain for processing on the farm or as a rolled product from NWF.
BENEFITS

Ideal as a ruminant and non-ruminant feed. Ruminants benefit from it being high in energy, in the form of starch, making it highly fermentable, encouraging milk protein and fast growth. It is also useful in pig and poultry diets.

FEATURES

• 63Kg/Hl bushel weight
• High starch level and high energy, low in fibre and protein
• Risk of acidosis when high levels of barley introduced quickly
• Preferred to wheat in intensive beef feed systems
• High rate of live weight gain
• Increased milk yields and milk protein output
• New crop barley can require gradual introduction in certain dietsFEED RATES

• Dairy Cows Up to 5kg/head/day
• Beef Up to 85% fo the DMI
• Ewes Up to 0.7kg/head/day

Wheat

Wheat is an excellent energy source for ruminants providing high levels of starch to stimulate milk production. Feed wheat produced in the UK has been grown for this purpose, although varieties for bread or biscuit making that failed to make the grade are also suitable. Available as a whole grain for processing on the farm and as a rolled or treated product from NWF.

BENEFITS

It is useful for increasing milk protein yields and for the promotion of growth.

FEATURES

• 72Kg/Hl bushel weight
• Very high starch level, but very low in fibre
• Feed coarsely rolled and not ground finely to avoid acidosis in ruminants or consider a treated product
• Increases milk yield and milk protein output
• NWF source homegrown wheat to produce to produce our unique product, Ultra Starch-W, which provides a con-sistent source of high-quality bypass starch with a higher gluco-TN value

FEED RATES• Dairy Cows Up to 5kg/head/day
• Beef Up to 40% fo the DMI
• Ewes Up to 0.5kg/head/day

Maize

A highly palatable feed providing a rich source of energy, from digestible fibre plus oil, and protein.
Available as a whole grain for processing on the farm or as a rolled/ground product from NWF.

BENEFITS

The highest energy of most cereals, containing twice the oil of wheat and barley

FEATURES

• Flaked, cracked, rolled, microside, sploded or ground before feeding, these processes improve the digestibility maximum of 85%
• A ready source of fermentable energy and protein
• Minimises risk of acidosis
• Suitable for all classes of ruminants
• Improves fertility by reducing loss of body condition in early lactation
